The MAPIC Awards Return In 2024 To Celebrate Excellence And Innovation

Since 1996, the MAPIC Awards reward excellence, innovation and creativity in the retail real estate industry, celebrating the industry’s most useful, sustainable and visionary projects. This year, the MAPIC Awards feature a number of new categories, reflecting MAPIC’s commitment to serve communities, businesses and the planet. The entry phase of the competition is open until July 22, 2024.

Discover the 13 categories that reward exceptional retail brand performance and development, the latest cutting-edge solutions in sustainability and innovation, and the most recent real estate projects and redevelopments. All finalist or winning projects will benefit from high-profile exposure and industry-wide recognition through MAPIC’s communication channels.

The Jury, chaired by Ana Guedes, Executive Director, Developments at Sona Sierra, will be made up of recognized industry experts in the fields of the environment, sustainability, retail, catering, marketing and architecture. Joining this year are Pascal Barboni (Managing Director; Frey), Alain Boutigny (Editor-in-Chief; Sites Commercieaux), Eric Decouvelaere (Head of Retail EMEA; CBRE Investment Management), Valeria Di Nisio (Group Leasing Director; Eurocommercial), Lorraine Dieulot (Lifestyle Business Unit Director; Saguez & Partners), Jonathan Doughty (Non-Executive Chairman; WhiteSpace Partners Ltd), Steffen Eric Friedlein (Managing Director Leasing; ECE Marketplaces), Alexandra von der Grün (Vice President Retail & Franchise Europe; Adidas), Jens Nielsen (Commercial & Digital Director; Ingka Centres), Clémentine Pacitti (Group Head of CSR; Klépierre), Valérie Stern (Store Development Project Director; Fast Retailing Group), and Robert Travers (Head EMEA Retail & Leisure; Cushman & Wakefield).

The 13 Categories In Detail:

Retail Brand of the Year

This award boosts and recognizes established retail brands for their exceptional performances over the past 12 months. This category will consider the increase in global sales and the development of new physical locations.

Food & Beverage Brand Of The Year

This award boosts and recognizes established restaurant chains and food & beverage brands for their exceptional performances over the past year. This category will consider the increase in global sales and the development of new units.

Leisure Brand of the Year

This category rewards established leisure brands and concepts for their originality and exceptional performances over the past 12 months. This category will consider the increase in global sales and the development of new number of units.

Best New Retail Brand

This award boosts and recognizes new retail brands launched within the past 3 years, for the originality of their concept (product, marketing campaign, innovation, shop fit-out, etc.), their achievements, entrepreneurial spirit and long-term development plans.

Best In-Store Experience

Reimagining the role of physical stores to enhance the customer experience: this category celebrates retailers having adopted the best in-store strategy to offer a unique experience to their community of clients.

Best Sustainable Initiative By A Retail Brand

This category looks at the way established retailers are reinventing and working towards a more sustainable future – including cutting carbon emissions, recycling, upcycling, responsible manufacturing – and how effective these initiatives really are.

Best Sustainable Initiative By A Property Player

This category looks at the way property players are working towards a more sustainable future – including cutting carbon emissions, recycling, upcycling, responsible manufacturing – and how effective these initiatives really are.

Best Refurbishment Project

This category rewards the most successful refurbishment and expansion of a shopping center, a retail park, outlet center or all other retail sites: improvement and enhancement of existing building, transformation for new uses achieving a new economic utilization of the asset. 

Best Food Hall & Food Court

This category rewards the most original Food Hall or Food Court launched during the past 3 years. The judges will reward the originality of the concept considering the wide variety of food, the local and artisanal initiatives, the interior design and environment, the integration of new technologies and sustainable initiatives.

Best New Development Project

This category is celebrating new projects arriving in retail real estate market, including assets such as shopping centers, outlets, retail parks and all other retail sites. 

Best Urban Regeneration Project

This category rewards the most successful regeneration of an urban area where Retail has played a significant role.

Best Retail Innovation & AI Project

This award celebrates the most innovative projects featuring the integration of AI and impacting every aspect of retail, from supply chains to the in-store experience. 

Best Store Design By French Designers

In partnership with Institut Français du Design, this category celebrates retail concept stores on the leading edge of innovative design.
