Six branches will also be operated by third parties on their own account, as announced by insolvency administrator Biner Bähr. A total of 182 jobs in Germany will be saved as a result.
“Initially, there were several interested parties who looked at the company as part of the structured sales process,” revealed insolvency administrator Bähr to the German “WirtschaftsWoche”. However, because the sale of the British parent company in England dragged on for months, many of them backed out.
Nevertheless, Herzberg continues to remain optimistic, saying that “there are many indications that The Body Shop will grow again in Germany.” In the medium term, he could imagine opening new stores and possibly even expanding into other countries.
The cosmetics company filed for insolvency for its UK branch in mid-February and shortly afterwards also for its German branch. The Body Shop brand was established in 1976 and was one of the first companies to focus on ethically produced cosmetics and skincare products.
