The occupancy rate in the six shopping centers was 97.2 percent in 2021. New leases were signed for more than 10,000 sq m of leasable space. For the Ottensen commercial building in Hamburg, a new lease agreement with New Yorker for 1,400 sq m was signed at the beginning of January 2022. This property is thus 100 percent leased.
“We have achieved leasing successes in a year dominated by severe restrictions for retailers,” says Jens Horeis, Sonae Sierra general manager responsible for property management in Germany.
“For the year 2022, we are focusing on ensuring that the concepts of our shopping centers and the layouts of the respective retail spaces are fit for the future and are constantly adapting them to market developments,” says Dirk von der Ahé, Head of Leasing at Sonae Sierra in Germany.
The company followed the trends toward smaller spaces and increasingly mixed-use properties in 2021. They remodeled Mercado and Münster Arkaden, and modernized the Quarrée Wandsbek with new designs and leases. Innovative retail concepts can also be found at Alexa. In cooperation with the Berlin City Mission, Alexa demonstrates social and community commitment and successfully implements the trend for sustainable fashion and upcycling. Corona vaccination or test stations were opened in all centers in 2021.
New tenants across 10,000 sq m
The Alexa shopping center in Berlin welcomed furniture and decor experts O My Wood, Wolkenseifen, Sleep.8, L’Occitane en Provence, O’Donnell Moonshine, Pomodori, and Tea One. Only has relocated within the center and presents the brand’s largest Berlin store. In 2022, the fashion brand Pull&Bear will move in. Sonae Sierra’s leasing team has agreed a ten-year extension of the lease with Edeka.
New tenants for Quarrée Wandsbek in Hamburg in 2021 include Barrique, Mister Spex, Aldi Nord, Kreativmarkt Hamburg, retailer TK Maxx, and fitness studio Xtrafit. New tenants in Hamburg’s Mercado since 2021 are Mobilcom and Sichtwerk Augenaerzte.
The Mercaden Böblingen welcomed two new leases: the Woolworth department store and the Ditsch pretzel bakery. Plasma Service GmbH found a new home in the Munster Arkaden in 2021 and will open here in 2022.
