The property has a Kaufland store on the first floor and a sports field on the roof. The jury of the Stadtimpulse initiative recognized this project as an outstanding contribution to the revitalization and attractiveness of towns and cities. The mixed-use property has been an anchor for local shopping and sports for 30 years.
“We have long observed competition for space between retail and other uses. Kaufland is therefore consistently following the trend toward flexible construction of a property that combines various uses. With the sports roof of our store in Erfurt, we are a pioneer in mixed-use real estate. The award is therefore both praise and an incentive for us to continue driving forward new, innovative construction in the city in the future,” says Stefan Meyer, Project Manager at Kaufland.
Built in 1993 and with a sales area of around 5,000 sq m, Kaufland store performs an important local supply function for the surrounding residential district. The sports field on the roof was planned from the outset. It was constructed as a solution for the district, which was lacking space for sports and physical activities for schools and clubs. Today, it is used by five schools and two clubs located in the immediate vicinity . In addition, around 100 residential units are rented out on upper floors.
