Only a quarter of the six million tons of clothing waste produced annually in the EU – equivalent to around 11 kilograms per person – is currently recycled. The majority is incinerated or ends up in landfills. Now the European Union wants to put a stop to the destruction of textiles with new laws.
H&M already offers second-hand products online in Sweden and Germany. Furthermore, they have also been offering selected Beloved items in the Berlin Mitte Garten store for some time and also opened a second-hand store in Barcelona some time ago. Now the company is offering pre-loved products from their own lines H&M, Weekday, Monki, Arket as well as third party brands in their Flagship Store in London.
Zara has also launched online in the UK with a merchandise circular program and is expanding this in France.
