A CHALLENGING RE-DEVELOPMENT

In Münster, Redevco subjected a heritage-protected complex to a makeover.

Rowan Verwoerd, Redevco’s Portfolio Director Germany, explained: “A redevelopment directly in the downtown area has to be actively managed in order to minimize negative impacts on the historic value of the property, the neighborhood, and the people who live and work there.”

The former building of fashion house SinnLeffers, located in the heart of the historic city, no longer fulfilled the requirements of a modern retailer. As a result, Redevco initiated a challenging redevelopment.

The façade and outer walls of the basement remained untouched as part of the building was heritage-protected. The transformed retail destination covers five levels of 8,000 sq m leasable area. Through the use of state-of-the-art lighting, air-conditioning, and elevator technologies, the projects built-in sustainability has been safeguarded, from start to finish – and beyond. All of this benefits the tenant, Primark, that opened their store in November 2017.
