Aldi and Lidl continue to expand in UK

Aldi and Lidl are currently the fourth and sixth largest retailers in the country. Both companies will continue to expand their market presence in the UK.

Aldi is already one of the four largest retailers in the UK and currently operates around 1000 stores.
This corresponds to a market share of 9.3 percent and an increase of 8% on the previous year. In 2024, Aldi plans to invest almost 650 million euros in the modernization of existing stores, new stores are also on the agenda. A total of around 1500 new jobs are to be created as a result.

Lidl opened its largest distribution center in the world in north London in autumn 2023. The country’s sixth-largest retailer supplies around 960 stores from there. In addition, a bottling plant with a capacity of around 380 million bottles per year was put into operation together with drinks manufacturer MEG, also part of the Schwarz Group. The bottles are selected with the environment in mind by recycling used disposable PET bottles, processing them into granulate and reprocessing them into new bottles.
