AN EARLY LAUNCH IN STUTTGART

ECE opened the Milaneo mall in the new European quarter of Baden-Württemberg’s capital on October 9 – half a year earlier than planned.

The new European quarter, one of the largest neighborhood developments in Germany, is being built on the site of a former freight rail station close to Stuttgart Central Station and the city center. In addition to the city library completed in 2011, Milaneo is considered the heart of the new district. The shopping center was developed and implemented by the partners ECE and Strabag Real Estate. The brand new consumer temple and its roughly 200 stores on 43,000 sq m of retail space await. 90% of the stores, such as Primark, Zara Home, Reserved, and tegut, are making their first appearance in Baden-Württemberg’s capital.

Milaneo’s foodservice offer is also unique in Stuttgart. With over 30 vendors and more than 1,000 seats, it is the largest and most diverse in the city. It includes well-known brands such as McDonald’s, Starbucks, Dunkin’ Donuts, and Segafredo, local greats like tobi’s and El Chico, as well as innovative concepts such as “Hans im Glück.” Others new to Stuttgart include GinYuu, a provider of Pan-Asian-Pacific cuisine, and the restaurant concept “Linas Köttbullar.”

SAME DAY DELIVERY

In addition, ECE will provide visitors with cutting-edge services. One example is “Same Day Delivery”. It allows customers to receive purchases from Milaneo delivered to their homes the same evening within a radius of 15 km. Customers simply leave their bags at the “Drop-Off Point” with a delivery address and get the goods delivered. They are thus freed from the arduous task of bringing their purchases home themselves.

Stuttgart’s mayor Fritz Kuhn was nonetheless cautious with his praise at the gala on the eve of the opening. “Between Gerber and Milaneo, our city has received almost 70,000 sq m of additional retail space in one fell swoop. That’s a lot. It remains to be seen how this increase will impact the long-established retail landscape,” said the politician. Gerber is a center developed by Phoenix Real Development GmbH that opened its doors on September 23, 2014.

Alexander Otto, CEO of ECE, is optimistic about Milaneo: “We have created an extraordinary and fascinating shopping destination with an excellent mix of shops and many shop concepts brand new to Stuttgart.”
