Kaufland is the first food retailer who is awarded the 3rd Star by Lean and Green for its overall reduction of CO2-Emissions, with the yearly number of spared emissions averaging around 25 thousand tons.
Continuing on the path to reach a CO2 emissions savings of 55% by 2030, Schwarz Group companies are aiming to improve their standards. With Kaufland signing PPAs with RWE for the period of 10 years, the recently opened offshore wind park “Kaskasi” near the German shore of the North Sea has found its first major customer.
“The cooperation with RWE Supply & Trading constitutes an innovative building block of our Energy strategy. With the help of PPAs we can ensure additional capacities for green electricity, thus underscoring the seriousness of our climate engagement”, said Jörg Siegel, Divisional Director at Schwarz Procurement.
The wind park “Kaskasi” counts 38 wind turbines that have a combined capacity of 342 Megawatt. It is estimated that with this much green electricity approximately 400 thousand households can be powered on a yearly basis.
