Frasers Group takes over Dutch chain Twin Sport

The British Frasers Group Plc currently has five branches of its Sports World chain in the Netherlands.

A binding agreement has now been concluded for the purchase of all shares in Twin Sport Holding BV. Twin Sport is part of the Intersport trade association and currently operates 17 locations and has a strong online presence. In the past financial year 2023, the company recorded sales of around 75 million euros. The takeover is expected to be completed following a successful antitrust review by the Dutch competition authority.

Ger Wright, Managing Director Sport at Frasers Group, said in a statement: “We are delighted to be acquiring Twin Sport. This transaction supports Sports Direct’s ambition to become the leading sports retailer in the EMEA region. As part of Frasers, Twin Sport will benefit from our strategy, our ongoing investment in omnichannel retailing and the incredible Sports Direct brand ecosystem.” He added: “Our unrivaled relationships with global brands such as Nike and Adidas, as well as our partnerships with popular local brands, will enrich Twin Sport’s offering to consumers.”

The British retail giant wants to expand its presence in the Netherlands and therefore also wants to secure the approximately 10 locations of the Sprinter retail chain – a subsidiary of JD Sports – which has been insolvent since December 2023.
