HMSHost signs new contract for 14 new locations with two major Chinese airports

HMSHost International, global market leader in the food and hospitality industry for people on the move, has signed new contracts with both Shanghai Pudong Airport and Beijing Daxing International Airport. It opens up the way to create 14 new Food & Beverage locations. Under the agreement more than 85% of the new F&B locations will be fully operational before China celebrates their national day on October 1st 2019

Shanghai Pudong International Airport is one of Shanghai’s two international airports, and a major aviation hub of China. Last year 74 million passengers travelled via Pudong Airport, making it the second-busiest airport in China, fifth-busiest in Asia, and the ninth-busiest in the world. With a very strong annual growth of passenger traffic, Shanghai Pudong International Airport is one of the fastest growing international airports in Asia, giving us the opportunity of bringing together a mix of local, regional and global Food & Beverage brands. Within the category high Chinese Western concepts, we offer Element Fresh and two Tasty Congee restaurants. Guests can enjoy a real Chinese breakfast, lunch or dinner at The Dining Room and Tarhar Silk Road. Other Asian food offers can be found at BonMenyamusashi and Unagi Joy House.

Beijing Daxing International Airport, also called Beijing New Airport is the third airport in Beijing, located in the Daxing district, south of downtown area, and is currently under construction. It is predicted to have a long-term passenger footfall of 130 million per year, and after reopening on September 30 this year it will rank as the largest airport in the world. HMSHost won the majority of concepts within the tender at Beijing Daxing International Airport, compared to our competitors, supplementing the ten already existing HMSHost locations at the Beijing Capital International Airport.

The six winning brands include Element Fresh, the perfect place to go for gourmet salads, fresh fruit juices, smoothies and brunch and afternoon tea. Shu Xing Pang, where the tastiest cakes can be found. Proven success brands The Dining Room and Crystal Jade, a Singapore-based Michelin-starred culinary brand that is committed to preserving the rich traditions of Chinese cuisine that nourish the soul with heart-warming flavours as wok-fried specialities, congee noodles, roasted meat and dim sum. HMSHost’s own-brand, Urban Food Market, a trendy kiosk concept offering a vast selection of drinks, fresh juices and savoury snacks, all alongside a Godiva Café for coffee with month-watering Belgium chocolates.

Walter Seib, CEO of HMSHost International, says: “Three years ago we entered in the Chinese market and we have been successful in setting up a business in the Beijing Capital International Airport which holds the highest passenger throughput. To be able to add two international airports into our landscape, and in such a short time frame, strengthens my opinion that China has a great growth potential for our business. Thanks to the local team we can build a strong successful cooperation with Shanghai Airport and Beijing Airport for many years to come. Together we make our guests feel good on the move.”
