With its online offering, Kaufland is already one of the largest marketplaces in Germany, the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Following the successful launch in Austria and Poland last year, the Kaufland marketplace is one of the fastest growing platforms there. Retailers who sell on all Kaufland marketplaces already potentially reach 81 million online customers in the marketplace countries. 37 million in France and 22 million in Italy increase the number of online shoppers reachable with Kaufland to almost 140 million.
“With France and Italy, we are tapping into the third and fourth largest e-commerce markets in Europe. Their impressive e-commerce sales give us the potential to become the largest European online platform. We are the alternative to global e-commerce giants, from Europe for Europe. We are now taking the next two steps, which will certainly not be the last,” says Gerald Schönbucher, CEO of Kaufland e-commerce.
In 2024, Kaufland Global Marketplace significantly increased its sales compared to the previous year. Sales growth in GMV (Gross Merchandise Volume) for the Kaufland marketplace was 7.85% across all Kaufland marketplace countries.
The basis for internationalization is the specially developed all-in-one solution Kaufland Global Marketplace. The all-in-one solution enables retailers to internationalize quickly and easily. With just one registration, online retailers can sell nationally and internationally on all Kaufland marketplaces and seamlessly manage their offers, orders and product data from one portal.
In Germany, Kaufland Marketplace is one of the largest online marketplaces with up to 32 million online visitors per month and more than 45 million products in over 6,400 categories. Looking at the separate expansion growth of Kaufland Global Marketplace, the opening of the regional marketplaces in Poland and Austria and the development of the marketplaces in the Czech Republic and Slovakia led to impressive year-on-year GMV growth of 106 percent – excellent prospects for further growth through the countries France and Italy by late summer 2025.
