Kaufland Marketplace Expands To Poland And Austria

In dynamic times for digital retail, Kaufland continues to drive forward its growth strategy for marketplaces. Following the successful launch in Slovakia and the Czech Republic last year, Kaufland is now bringing its marketplaces to two more countries: Poland and Austria. The launch is planned for late summer.

With 245 stores, Kaufland is one of the leading food retailers in Poland. In addition, Polish online retail has recently recorded growth rates of more than 10 percent. The Kaufland marketplace now wants to exploit this potential, coupled with the high level of brand awareness and trust in the brand. Kaufland.pl is to become the platform for online sales in Poland for large and small online retailers from Germany and abroad.

With Austria, the Kaufland marketplace is now also expanding for the first time into a country where Kaufland does not have a brick-and-mortar presence. Nevertheless, Kaufland has a brand awareness of over 40 percent in the country. In addition, there are still hardly any local online marketplace providers in the country with a similarly broad product range. Kaufland wants to take advantage of this opportunity with its marketplace.

“Our Kaufland marketplace has got off to a very good start in Europe. In Slovakia and the Czech Republic, we are already one of the largest online marketplaces in the country. We are getting a lot of positive feedback from both retailers and customers. Accordingly, expansion into other countries is the next big and logical step for us this year. We are very pleased that we can now make our marketplace accessible to millions of people in Poland and Austria and that our retailers can further expand their presence in Europe,” says Gerald Schönbucher, CEO of Kaufland e-commerce.

From local to global with Kaufland Global Marketplace

The basis for internationalization is the specially developed all-in-one solution Kaufland Global Marketplace. This enables online retailers to sell nationally and internationally on the Kaufland marketplaces with just one registration. The all-in-one solution offers retailers an ideal infrastructure to grow quickly as a global player without having to build up their own resources.

In Germany, the Kaufland marketplace is one of the largest online marketplaces with up to 32 million online visitors per month and more than 45 million products in over 6,400 categories. In Slovakia, 4,200 retailers already offer 6.5 million products on the Kaufland marketplace. In the Czech Republic, there are 5.9 million items from around 4,700 registered retailers. Around a quarter of the retailers come from their own country.

Own shipping service

This year, the Kaufland Marketplace is also rolling out its international Fulfillment by Kaufland service. Kaufland Marktplatz picks, packs and ships orders for retailers directly to the customer. The first retailers are already using the service, and many more will follow in the coming months. The aim is to get orders to customers even faster.
