Leasing success for urban mixed-use project LU: in Mainz

The anchor tenant for the LU: project in Mainz has been determined. In the urban mixed-use project development by J. Molitor Immobilien GmbH and Sparkasse Rhein-Nahe, one of Europe’s most successful sports retailers, Engelhorn Sports, is opening its first store in the Rhine-Main area.

The project developers Molitor and Sparkasse Rhein-Nahe have secured a well-known anchor tenant for the LU:Quartier in terms of retail. Since the end of September, for example, the lease agreement has been signed with the Engelhorn fashion house group from Mannheim, which will be setting up shop with a sports concept.

“With a high-quality range of sports fashion and sports equipment, Engelhorn fits perfectly into the upper mainstream or premium segment of the LU: and will also add a new magnet to the Mainz retail landscape,” says Molitor Managing Director Tina Badrot.

Advanced talks are also underway for the full-range retailer on the first floor. A total of approx. 10,800 sq m of retail space will be created in the LU:Quartier, of which approx. 1,900 sq m will be in the first construction phase on Fuststrasse.

Since the departure of the previous tenant Karstadt, ambas has been providing conceptual consulting services alongside the project partners for the holistic realignment of the premium area in the capital of Rhineland-Palatinate and also mediated in the conclusion of the anchor lease agreement that has now been signed. An important project milestone has thus been reached. A further anchor lease is currently in advanced negotiations.

Completion of the project in the heart of Mainz’s old town is scheduled for 2026.
