Poundland has confirmed plans to open or relocate 75 stores by end of December 2023

Poundland is part of the Pepco Group, which operates over 4,000 stores in 21 countries, including the UK, Republic of Ireland, Spain and the CEE region, and employs 43,000 people.

This includes the acquisition of up to 71 former Wilko locations. All of these new Poundland stores will offer groceries and household goods, including Pepco clothing. The new stores Poundland plans to open also include six former M&Co stores (Portishead, Crewkerne, Midsomer Norton, Faversham, Newport and Wells). Poundland will also move into a former John Lewis store in Watford. More than 500 former Wilko employees were offered employment.

Austin Cooke, Poundland’s chief executive, said, “Opening 75 stores in a single quarter is a superhuman achievement by every member of the Poundland team. To each and every one of them, I say ‘thank you’.

Poundland opened its first store in Burton-upon-Trent in 1990. Since then, the company has built up a network of over 850 stores in the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland. It currently employs around 18,000 people, serving up to seven million customers each week. The product range includes top brands as well as high-quality private label products. In the United Kingdom, the clothing is also offered in the 500 largest stores. The acquisition of Poundshop.com in spring 2022 accelerated plans to offer the range online, and a few months later the online store poundland.co.uk was successfully launched nationwide.
