Retail Sales In The Eurozone Have Fallen

Retailers in the eurozone suffered a surprisingly sharp drop in sales in June, show the official Eurostat statistics.

They recorded 0.3 percent less in their tills than in the previous month, shared the Eurostat statistics office on Tuesday. Economists who were surveyed by the Reuters news agency had only expected a fall of 0.1 percent, following a rise of 0.1 percent in May.

Compared to the same month last year, retail sales fell by 0.3% in June. An increase of 0.1% had been expected. Moreover, business with food, beverages and tobacco shrank by 0.7 percent in June. At the same time, the decrease in non-food products turnover slowed to 0.1 percent from 0.3 percent.
