The Prosecutor’s Office for Economic Affairs and Corruption (WKStA) cited several reasons for this step in its arrest order, including that he had deprived creditors of assets.
He allegedly falsified an invoice and attempted to conceal assets and evade access by the authorities, trustees and creditors, stated the release. Benko was, among other things, the beneficial owner of the Laura Private Foundation, but he had concealed this as part of his personal insolvency. He had thus concealed assets.
The WKStA had most recently investigated Benko on suspicion of fraud and fraudulent bankruptcy, among other things. In addition, an arrest warrant had been issued against the Tyrolean by the public prosecutor’s office in Trento, Italy, in December, but this was rejected according to the Innsbruck Regional Court; surrender was declared inadmissible.
