Last year, most of the Swiss shopping centers surveyed recorded a significant increase in both sales and visitor frequency. Around 63% of the centers surveyed growth, indicating a veritable revival of the centers.
This positive result is probably due to the massive investments made in recent years in the quality of stay and the mix of offers. According to a recent survey, 52% of the centers surveyed have taken measures in the last two years to improve the quality of stay, and 93% have seen major changes in their tenant mix. In the 25 centers surveyed, there were over 120 changes of tenant, including different uses.
Various studies show that shopping in bricks-and-mortar stores is becoming more popular again. Shopping centers now appear to be benefiting from this in particular, as they offer the greatest added value in terms of shopping convenience and experience.
The market share of shopping centers in total retail sales is estimated at around 19%, while total online retail in Switzerland only has a market share of 12%.
