Westfield Hamburg-Überseequartier: Opening delayed

The opening of Hamburg’s Überseequartier, planned for April 25th, has been postponed due to water damage. The center is now scheduled to open to visitors at the end of August, the operator Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield (URW) announced on Thursday.

It was supposed to be a big party, including a performance by superstar Rita Ora. But the opening of the shopping center in Hafencity, which has been announced for months, has been cancelled. On the construction site, groundwater leaked into an important technical system in part of the basement, URW said. “An analysis of the damage began immediately in collaboration with our planners and engineers,” it said. URW also justified the decision to postpone the opening by four months with the summer holidays, which in Hamburg last from July 18th to August 28th.
