Woolworth expands in Austria and opens first location in Eisenstadt

After more than a decade, Woolworth is returning to the Austrian market with its new successful concept. In addition to the store in Eisenstadt, more than 30 new openings are planned by the end of 2024.

The non-food discount range is to be expanded and the company intends to regain a presence throughout Austria following its insolvency in 2009.
In neighboring Germany, Woolworth is already one of the most successful retail companies – around 100 locations are opened every year. To date, the company operates around 630 department stores.
The launch will take place in Eisenstadt on a sales area of almost 1,200m2. The store offers 10,000 items for the whole family. The new concept impresses with a modern store design and an attractive price-performance ratio.

“Our aim is to offer good products at reasonable prices and to be as close as possible to our customers so that they can shop quickly,” says Ivana Jezidzic, Head of Sales at Woolworth Austria. “We therefore made a conscious decision to open our first store in Austria in a medium-sized town like Eisenstadt.”
“Austrians know exactly what they like and what they are looking for. In future, we want to offer them something that will help them to make their homes more beautiful,” says Ivana Jezidzic, explaining the Woolworth concept. “Families, singles, young people and senior citizens alike will find almost everything they need for everyday life in our range. We don’t appeal to a specific target group, but to all price-conscious people.”

Further locations by the end of this year are Mürzzuschlag, Kapfenberg in Styria and Neukirchen in Lower Austria. Stores in Vienna, Innsbruck and Klagenfurt will follow next year.

Woolworth GmbH is a successful German retail company that employs around 10,000 people. Today, the company is the fastest-growing department store chain in Germany. The product range extends from decorative and household articles to electrical, drugstore and gift items, as well as clothing for the whole family. With its distinctive retail concept, the company sees potential for over 1,500 department stores in Germany and the opportunity to bring the necessary footfall to city centers in order to strengthen them in the long term. In addition to the expansion in Austria, Woolworth launched its first locations in Poland in May 2023.
