Peter Ballon appointed as ULI’s new Global Chair.
Peter Ballon, global head of real estate for CPP Investments, has been appointed as the new global chair of the Urban Land Institute (ULI). Ballon will serve on a voluntary basis for a two-year term and will provide member leadership as the Institute focuses on three new global mission priorities: decarbonization, education, and housing.

Global real estate advisor, CBRE announced the appointment of Andrew Hulme as an Executive Director, within its UK Investment Properties team.
Andrew has a wealth of experience in the retail sector having been made an equity partner at Strutt & Parker when he was 32, then most recently at BNP Paribas Real Estate where he ran the Retail and Alternatives teams. He began his career at CBRE, focusing on the retail occupier market before specializing in retail warehouse investment and out-of-town retail. Andrew will bring a deep understanding of the wider retail market and the alternative uses within the sector. He has been very active in the market for a number of years, working with a broad range of clients.

Newsec Property Asset Management has made an agreement with a new Managing Director of the Danish division of the Nordic property asset manager. The new Managing Director, Kim Andersen, joins the company from a position as Vice President of the insurance company, If Skadeforsikring. As from 1 September 2021, Kim Andersen will lead the 575 employees based in Denmark and join the Nordic management team of Newsec.

New chair of Urban Land Institute’s NEXT group for mid-career European real estate professionals aims to further increase volume of quality content and networking opportunities.
Nicholas Garattini, head of business development and investor relations at Generali Real Estate, has been appointed as chair of the Urban Land Institute’s (ULI) NEXT group in Europe, which engages and supports real estate professionals aged 35–45 as they seek to take the next step in their careers. He succeeds Galyna Permyakova, who chaired the European NEXT Group for the last two years. Nicholas officially began his voluntary two-year term on 1 July 2021 and will join the ULI Europe Executive Committee as part of his role.

Wood will rejoin Cushman & Wakefield as an International Partner later this year from JLL, where he spent four years as a Director leading the Out of Town Retail team and more recently in its Capital Markets Asset Repositioning team. Wood previously worked in Cushman & Wakefield’s Retail & Leisure team for 25 years, specialising in out-of-town retail, leisure and grocery.

The Urban Land Institute (ULI) has announced the appointment of Anette Simpson, director of development and partnerships, Legal & General Affordable Homes, as chair of ULI United Kingdom (ULI UK). She succeeds Vanessa Hale, director of research, BNP Paribas Real Estate, and will officially begin her voluntary two-year term on 1 July 2021.
Her appointment was announced during the National Council’s Annual Conference today. Vanessa Hale, outgoing chair of ULI UK, said: “Anette has been a very active executive committee member for ULI UK and will be a fantastic chair for the National Council. As an industry leader, she has been involved with some of the most high-profile projects across the country working collaboratively across both the private and public sectors. With her affordable housing and planning expertise and connections, we expect to see the council continue to grow and inspire a whole new generation of real estate professionals.”

The Urban Land Institute (ULI) has announced the appointment of Emanuela Recchi, president of Recchi Engineering, as chair of ULI Italy. She succeeds Davide Albertini Petroni, managing director, Risanamento S.p.A, and will officially begin her voluntary two-year term on 1 July 2021.
Emanuela Recchi’s appointment was announced during the National Council’s Annual Conference on 16 June. Davide Albertini Petroni, outgoing chair of ULI Italy, said: “Emanuela has been a very enthusiastic ally of ULI Italy for many years and will be an excellent chair. As a well-respected industry leader, she is an innovative thinker with a multidisciplinary background, dedicated to ensuring that real estate projects bring positive, lasting change for communities. Melanie will initially join as a Non-Executive Director with immediate effect, succeeding Jonathon Bond in the role of Chair from September this year. As previously announced, Jonathon Bond takes up the newly created role of Chief Investment Officer (CIO), Grosvenor Estate.
Melanie is a Senior Adviser in London to Lazard, the global financial advisory and asset management firm, having joined as a Managing Director in 2008. Melanie spent the previous 25 years in the financial advisory business with S.G. Warburg & Co. Ltd. and then UBS.

The 41-year-old real estate executive will assume responsibility for Asset Management within the group’s funds business with effect from 1 June, working closely together with Torsten C. Wesch, Managing Director for Fund Management, and Frank Eckervogt, Managing Director for Transactions.Markus Diers brings a proven track record of 20 years in real estate management with a particular focus on large-format retail. Before joining redos, he served as head of asset management for retail properties at HIH Real Estate GmbH, a property investment manager, where he managed a retail and logistics portfolio with a total of EUR 1.4 billion in property holdings.
